Welcome to the new season. It may be the depths of Winter but your committee is working away on fixtures, handbooks and updating this site for the 2012 season. Fixtures will be available shortly; there will be three divisions of 8 teams on Wednesday evenings, so no byes and a full fixture card. We will have all the usual Cup competitions in a similar format to last year and we hope to have as many finals as possible at Chester Road.

New teams this year include: Hagley, making a return after a number of years away; Quatt, returning after a couple of years away, and Bewdley Arches B, yet another team from the very sporty Bewdley public house. Arches B will play their home games at Chester Road which has been arranged thanks to our good relations with the ground.

Sadly the Chain Wire club will no longer be hosting cricket and Bayton, who have played there for the last few seasons, have had to move to Alveley, in so doing becoming Alveley B.

We are glad to have a second team from Cookley entered as well this season.

If there are any changes to your club contact details please let a member of the committee know as soon as possible. We will be printing the handbook at the end of February and they will be distributed at the General Meeting on 13th March.

Congratulations on an excellent season and well done to those who won leagues or cups.

You will receive your trophies at the AGM in November where we hope to have another guest of honour from WCCC.  In the meantime we have our September general meeting on 13th September at Wilden Club, 7.30 pm.

If you won a trophy last year and still have it please return it at this meeting, preferably cleaned.

Don't forget your AVERAGES which should be filled in on the official form downloadable from this website

Please come prepared to discuss rule changes as listed on the agenda and let us know if we've missed any.

There is still some interest in a Sunday league next year based on a T20 format.

If you are interested or know a team that would be, please let the committee know.

Look for ward to seeing you on 13th

Press Coverage:  A few year's back there were regular reports of our league in the Shuttle and Chronicle, compiled from data supplied by Tony Wrench which he culled from the results cards. However, changes in working practices at these newspapers in recent years have meant that they practically expect you to write the report for them and just email it over!
So, if any of you fancy yourselves as budding Matthew Engels this is your chance.  We are advised that the newspapers are amenable to publishing stories and if there is a reasonable quality photo to go with it, even better.  If you'd like to see YOUR team in the local press then write a short report after the game (doesn't have to be very long, in fact the shorter the better) and snap a photo of the action or the man of the match using a good quality camera phone (or whatever is to hand) and email it to fcladmin@gmail.com where Tony will edit and compile a full report to send on to the papers. For Wednesday games please send report by end of Friday for inclusion in the next week's paper.

If anyone fancies the job (voluntary of course) as official Wilden League photographer and is available to visit matches on a Wednesday evenings then please contact me or one of the committee.

The first round of the 10x10 cup has taken place, as well as the first two fixtures in the Invitation Cup. Congratulations to all the winners who go through to the next round. The Committee have decided that the lucky losers form the first round of the 10x10 are: West Hagley B, Stone and Three Crowns.  These three clubs will go forward to the remaining two fixtures in the first round of the Invitation Cup (see fixtures page on this web site), to be played on or before 17th May.

Gas have changed their home ground. For the remainder of the season they will play all their home games at Blakedown on the newly laid artificial surface there. We are assured that the temporary changing and showering facilities are up to standard and they will look forward to more permanent buildings in the future. It is always good news to hear of a new ground being brought up to standard. The ground is located at the rear of the school.

document_text.gifChairman's Notes 2011

Welcome to the Wilden Industrial Estate Cricket League 2011.  Now in our 36th year the league still strives to promote friendly, competitive cricket for teams in the Kidderminster district and surrounding areas.

This year the Wednesday Evening league consists of 21 teams in 3 divisions (7 teams in each division).  Matches are 12 overs of 8 balls per side, but this year captains will be obliged to use at least 5 bowlers per innings.

Club changes include a second Lye team but Cookley have only entered one team.  We have also lost long standing clubs OTS/Fire and Brintons.  Wollescote have been rebranded as Pedmore reflecting their change of home ground while the team that played as Pedmore last year have withdrawn. A late addition to Division B is Bewdley Arches who will play their home games at Bewdley Cricket Club. Their late entry necessitated a rescheduling of the Division B fixtures so please use the fixtures published on this website and not the ones in your handbook.

We have again attempted to put as many matches as possible on Wednesdays.  Our fixtures secretary has come up with a novel device for the first round of the Senior Cup, utilising the early "bye" weeks in the Premier and A divisions.  The Junior Cup, between division B teams is, by necessity, a smaller competition but a good opportunity for the lower division clubs to finish the season with a trophy.

We have also entered all teams into a rejigged 10x10 competition.  After last year's wash out we felt it was important to give this competition a higher profile, especially as our sponsor puts so much effort into trophies, awards and finals for us.  You will see that it is spaced throughout the season as a straight knockout.  The top 16 teams are in the main draw while the remaining teams, plus three 'lucky losers' from the 10x10, fight it out for the Invitation Cup under 10x10 rules.  I hope you enjoy the revised format.

We are indebted to the ground authorities at Chester Road who have allowed us to play many of our finals there over the last few years free of charge.  We will again endeavour to take advantage of their hospitality and play as many finals as possible on what is the county's second ground. The league committee think it is only fair that we repay their hospitality by visiting the club bar after the match.  So, if you are lucky enough to find yourself in a Chester Road final this year, please show your appreciation.

Of course, the main difference  this year is the sad demise of the Sunday league.  After a number of years of declining numbers there were only 4 teams entered.  The committee felt that was not sufficient to produce a meaningful fixtures list.  Perhaps this will only be a temporary blip; let’s hope so. Any teams looking for Friendly fixtures on a Sunday should get in touch with Geoff Allen at Wolverley Social Cricket Club on 01562 632239.

There are bound to be some of you who will be disappointed to see our new disciplinary rules, especially after the resistance to their introduction at last year’s AGM.  However, the committee felt they had little choice but to bring in the so called “Spirit of Cricket” procedures, based on the ECB Code of Conduct and MCC Spirit of Cricket (both reproduced in the handbook or see the ECB website).  Any player committing a level 1 offence could find themselves facing a 2 match ban imposed on the spot by the standing umpires.  The ban is enforced by the club in support of the umpire and the league rules.  More serious offences are dealt with in the normal way at disciplinary hearings.  The aim is to cut out petulant behaviour which umpires have been reluctant to report in previous years but which often escalates to more serious offences at some point.

Please note the ECB guidelines for juniors playing in senior matches, the wearing of helmets, fast bowling directives and Safe Hands policy.  Please familiarise yourself with these, reprinted in the handbook.  Clubs are reminded they should all appoint a Welfare Officer whose job is to keep a list of CRB clearances and/or self declaration forms.

Umpire Liability cards have been with us for a few years now and there is some disquiet in umpiring circles about the system, not least about who should keep and catalogue all the cards (which must be kept for at least 3 years).  Your league is again in the vanguard of doing something about it and this year you will find slight changes to your results card, incorporating information about under age players. It will mean you have to fill out your teams on the card before you start the game but, ultimately, we feel this will be a time saver by combining the two cards.

Once again I would like to emphasise the importance of communication between the committee and the teams in the league.  Please make sure you are represented at league meetings, read the circulars sent by email and consult this web site regularly for news, special announcements, results and league positions.  You can even see who is scheduled to umpire your match.  Most important of all, please ensure you fill out your results cards clearly and with as much detail as possible. It all makes our jobs easier.

Many thanks and enjoy the sport!
